Information

At Bedford Drive Primary School we are committed to ensuring that we promote equality for all members of our school community (children, staff, parents and visitors).  We aim to do this through the use of our resources; our school policies and how we deliver our curriculum.

We also aim to promote a global understanding of equality issues through our practice and curriculum.  We fully accept our responsibility to educate our children about equality information and assertively address any behaviour that affects the equality of others.

That includes equality issues relating to:

  • gender

  • ethnicity and race

  • religion

  • disabilities

  • homophobic behaviours

  • any prejudice towards transgender people

  • age

The school is committed to promoting the welfare and equality of all its staff, pupils and other members of the school community. To achieve this, the school has established the following objectives:

1.  To eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct which is prohibited by or under the Act. We will:

  • Enhance the school community’s understanding of the act;

  • Tackle Discrimination by the positive promotion of equality, challenging bullying and stereotypes and creating an environment which champions respect for all.

2. To advance quality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it. We will:

  • Maintain high standards of inclusive practice and procedures;

  • Ensure equality of access and opportunity for all;

  • Continue to identify barriers to learning and participation and provide appropriately to meet diversity of needs.

3. We aim to provide all our pupils with the opportunity to succeed and to reach their highest possible level of personal achievement. To do this we will:

  • Use contextual data to improve the ways in which we provide support to individuals and groups of pupils;

  • Monitor achievement of data by ethnicity, gender and disability and investigate and remedy and inconsistencies.
